Hello friends!

Last weekend I took a little trip to Vancouver Island. I haven’t seen my best friend since February, and it’s sad that even in Canada, we’re so far apart. On our to-do list? China town, B.C. Parliament buildings, Market Square Flea Market, Green Cuisine ( AMAZING VEGAN BUFFET with food that will convert you) , Baggins Shoes (too many Vans & Converse — in the best way) and an awkward encounter with a flower truck driver. Turns out, he didn’t want to join our photos.  Thankfully, I managed to snap a beautiful pic before he sped off.

The next day, we also attended Victoria Pride. For the event, sidewalks around town were permanently painted rainbow. Awesome.

When these photos were taken, it was also 33 Celsius. Essentially, this makes putting together blog looks far more difficult than usual (I say that a lot — but I prefer cold-ish weather). Since I only brought a backpack to Victoria, I also had to bring lightweight pieces that could translate from day – to – night. Pre layered skirts and dresses are my go-to.

Of course, the Vince slip ons made another appearance. No surprise there.

See you next week! Let me know if you’ve ever been to Vancouver Island — if you haven’t, you’re missing out <3. Also: Whipped Cream is bomb and she’s from Vancouver Island. Reason enough to go :).

Hey guys…

I went out for drinks the other day (not alone — don’t fret), and as I chatted about my interests, I came to a realization. Call it maturing, but I’ve ended up with completely different friends, fashion tastes and career aspirations. After going to Sweden last March, its as if I’ve opened my mind. Life is beautiful — eh?

Rather than disliking certain things for all of eternity, I’ve made the conscious choice to give them a chance. I’m switching to dressage. I’ve now taken a liking to Swedish style, Jaden Smith, Avocados and yoga. Maybe I’m becoming basic **cringes at the word choice**, but I like to think its a newfound optimism. What’s wrong with trendy stuff if you genuinely like it? What’s wrong with someone else [@lovelaurenelizabeth] proving that a certain trend or style is worth a try? In particular, Lauren Elizabeth’s obsession with perforated Vans & Vince slip-ons caused me to splurge on these Vince ones. It’s her fault.

On that fateful deep chat & whiskey day, I even rocked perforated shorts, shoes and a shirt. Up until recently, I used to think that perforated clothing made the wearer look like a walking car seat. Maybe that’s true, but when its black & white, its like a nice car seat. An Audi car seat — and what’s wrong with that?

*On a completely random note, I visited the Kit & Ace store in Vancouver that same day! I loved the second white top so much that I ended up wearing it for the rest of my photos. It was #truelove.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this week’s post! Stay tuned: some big graphic changes are in the works.. 🙂

Let’s go to the beach.

Hey there…

After a busy week of your standard 9-5, a trip to the beach was long overdue. Contrary to stereotypes, there are actually beaches in Canada. They get hot. We go swimming. It’s a thing. For these sorts of occasions (it was 30 celsius), lightweight shorts, my Adidas and my dog Buddha = the only things I need for some fun downtime — which usually involves music, reading, and immersing myself in all that is not degree-related.

While I was at the beach, I brought some of the “impulse buy” books I bought last semester (books I bought fully knowing I had no time to read them). First up? The Bell Jar. Not the most uplifting beach read, but I can’t put it down.

After spending a few hours at the beach with the family, we had a campfire and listened to the new Kendrick Lamar album (ITS PURE GOLD GUYS). Not to brag, but I can roast a mean marshmallow — golden always.

I always try to appreciate these calm moments in my life…. sometimes I wish I could just become a yogi and move to Vermont. Anyone wanna join?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s post! Be sure to tell me below what you’re reading / listening to? I’d love to know <3.

Hello friends!

Honestly, summer has been my saviour. At the end of last semester, my brain was far too foggy to function. Even last week, when I wrote the forest post, I was still too jet-lagged to function. Now that I’m physically and mentally present, my mom and I went into Vancouver for my birthday dinner at my favourite Italian restaurant.

Even though it was a grey day, Vancouver always has cool things to take photos of. Besides, summer fashion isn’t really my thing anyways (layering = my thing). For inbetween weather, I’m obsessed with my lightweight tie-dye cardigan. The waterfall cut looks awesome layered under my jacket, but isn’t overly warm like a hoodie.

It was nice to have a day off work and chill with my mom, but all next week = working in the office. Wonder what I’ll wear….

I hope you’ve enjoyed my post this week! Comment below if you know of any new restaurants I can try :).

I’m Home

Hello friends,

I’m finally home! Since I’m back in Canada, I decided to detach myself from my computer and *gasp* go outside. I unearthed my Diamond board and cruised down manicured paths near a friend’s place. While skating around, I took some shots.

It’s really nice to be back on the west coast. Everyone is so laid back, and I feel a lot more free and casual. However, my penchant for layering was challenged by the Canadian heat. Turns out pleather pants aren’t breathable. At all.

As for the rest of my outfit, I’m particularly in love with the flowered shoe bag that I used as a purse. I tied a cube necklace to it, and I love how it turned out. Purses are a pain to skate around with.

Although I won’t have time to skate too much next week, lots of exciting stuff will be happening! I’ll be starting my summer job, and getting back to boxing and riding.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s post! Be sure to let me know where you’re from in the comments <3.

What I Wear: Movie Theatre Layering #trainersontuesday

Hello friends!

I hope you are all well! Personally, 2015 has been going splendidly (despite posting rather irregularly on here, which makes me sad). I’ve been spending all of my time riding, working out, watching hockey (World Juniors anyone?) and applying for jobs. On NYE, I went to an underground deep house party — great way to start the year.

Since I’m about to see a film tonight, I figured I’d dress up, instead of rocking riding gear 99% of the time. We’re going to see the The Theory of Everything , a film about physicist Stephen Hawking. The film is supposed to be amazing — Eddie Redmayne (Burberry model/ Les Mis star) being reason enough to see it.

To stay comfy at the movie theatre, I’m  opting for my favourite Converse! These Converse are quite old, but their metallic fabric has only improved with age.Although a metallic shoe may seem ill-fitting for this look, the metallic texture coordinates with the silver accents on the clutch and the scarf.

For trousers, loose styles are intimidating, but ultimately fool proof. The trousers fall perfectly to cover the upper of the high top, and the high tops themselves prevent any awkward ankle exposure. Additionally, the slim fit of the Converse allow the trousers to fall properly, whereas wider high tops would appear awkward.

To keep warm in the movie theatre, I’ll most likely layer a burgundy hoodie underneath the leather jacket. If crop tops aren’t your style, a baggy tee tucked into these trousers would be equally cool! The key = layers, layers, layers & tailored yet comfortable pieces. Done.

Side note/ advice from a Canadian: If its snowing where you live, opt for flatforms. Flatforms are not only super hip, but they will also prevent your trousers from dragging in the snow. I’m currently coveting these flatforms.

Have you seen The Theory of Everything? What do you wear to the movies? Be sure to comment below. See you Friday (hopefully…hehe).

Update: Film was amazing! Highly recommend!!!
