Hello friends!

Last weekend I took a little trip to Vancouver Island. I haven’t seen my best friend since February, and it’s sad that even in Canada, we’re so far apart. On our to-do list? China town, B.C. Parliament buildings, Market Square Flea Market, Green Cuisine ( AMAZING VEGAN BUFFET with food that will convert you) , Baggins Shoes (too many Vans & Converse — in the best way) and an awkward encounter with a flower truck driver. Turns out, he didn’t want to join our photos.  Thankfully, I managed to snap a beautiful pic before he sped off.

The next day, we also attended Victoria Pride. For the event, sidewalks around town were permanently painted rainbow. Awesome.

When these photos were taken, it was also 33 Celsius. Essentially, this makes putting together blog looks far more difficult than usual (I say that a lot — but I prefer cold-ish weather). Since I only brought a backpack to Victoria, I also had to bring lightweight pieces that could translate from day – to – night. Pre layered skirts and dresses are my go-to.

Of course, the Vince slip ons made another appearance. No surprise there.

See you next week! Let me know if you’ve ever been to Vancouver Island — if you haven’t, you’re missing out <3. Also: Whipped Cream is bomb and she’s from Vancouver Island. Reason enough to go :).

Hello friends!

Today I found inspiration from a person I saw. Call me a copycat. It’s cool. I was on  the tube a week ago, and I saw a girl wearing a sheer, long sleeved shirt over jeans and under a leather jacket. She wore a chain overtop. She was crazy cool.

Once the envy subsided, I decided to copy her. I already owned most of what she was wearing, I had simply never thought of putting these items together. Safe to say I’m obsessed.

Since its revision period, I don’t have any life changing updates. I’ve been in the library till far too late, blasting Jaden Smith and drinking copious amounts of tea from my Tate Modern mug. Sometimes, when things are not so fun, we all need coping measures.

Comment below if you’ve ever copied someone’s outfit! Also, feel free to tell me you’re revision coping strategies — I need all the help I can get.

Hello friends!

Today was one of those days. You know — the ones that initially seem horrible, but with a little dose of optimism, turn into something great. Despite having a visa check, flat inspection and too much work, the between moments, sunshine and avocado bagels made it worth while. Especially the bagel. No lie.

After great thought whilst eating this majestic bagel (the positive turning point in my day, lol), I realized that I indeed have the power to turn this day around. Armed with this positive attitude (and ridding myself of my hangry disposition) , I managed to have abrupt revelations pertaining to Shakespeare’s Richard II and the communist plays I’m studying. Also, I couldn’t even choose which pictures to post! I had to narrow them down considerably, despite this post being more picture heavy than usual.

Anyways, right before all my studying went down, Morgan and I (my friend whose in town), walked around and took these pics. For the first time in my photo shoot history, a guy actually tried to photo bomb. Legend.

I not only love the sunshine in these shots and Morgan’s photographic ability (she has a natural talent), but I also love the utility of today’s outfit. During a phase in which I gained a ton of weight as a fresher (probably tmi but whatever), I ripped these leggings significantly. Thankfully, a local tailor fixed them and three other items for 12 pounds. Paired with this sleeveless trench, I felt appropriately casual yet put together for my average study day.

A sleeveless trench? I know what you’re thinking. That isn’t functional. True, but I see it more as a long blazer / vest that pairs easily with everything in my closet. Especially these shoes. Similar to the trainers, the trench is a dressed down version of something fancy: ragged edge trench vest, high-end trainers. Who doesn’t like contrast? Even better, who doesn’t love wearing leather trousers and high-tops like J Biebs. Or Missy Elliot. I’m a fan. No shame.

See you all Friday! Comment below on your favourite piece that seems impractical — but actually is. I’d love to know <3.

Daytime Loungewear #trainersontuesday ft. $10 Vans

Hello friends!

I have a confession. Over the last few days, I’ve been a hermit. You know the work load is depressing when going to the dentist gets you excited. Other people. Outdoors. You also know you’ve been a hermit when you take pictures of yourself with a tripod. I always prefer having a photographer — their eye makes the process quite smooth. Although my “selfies” *cringes* were a technology struggle at first, I love how they turned out!

Since I’m currently hermit-ing it up in a condo building, I decided to show you all what I wear on chill days — whether I’m walking around the condo or hitting up my nearby Tim Hortons. Even if you’re not spending all day indoors (thanks to work and sub zero temperatures), this look is still PERFECT for the library, lectures — or even on the plane. Pick up a pair at H&M and embrace your inner MC Hammer. Or Gwen Stefani, if you’re from the 90s generation.

Side note: These trousers also look amazing with wedge sneakers. Just don’t have any :(…. but with the rate I’m going at, I’ll probably have some soon. ALSO structured bags make any chilled look far more sophisticated. Try it.

Most importantly…

The shoes! Although these trainers were found at J Crew (cringe), they were only $10 (definitely not cringe). I love the mix of preppy blazer fabric with the traditional vans slip on style. For a shoe style that I repeatedly buy (6th grade I wore holes in two pairs of Vans slip ons), $10 is a total steal. I look forward to styling them with ripped jeans and dresses once the weather calms down.

Two more posts, then I’ll be back in Scotland. Until then, I’ll exercise some creativity over shooting locations. To tide you over till the next post, follow me on my new Instagram @stephieirwin , which I update daily.

P.S: If any of you are in Toronto — be my friend? LOL

Hello friends!

As I sit here in Dark Horse Coffee, the door keeps letting in gusts of wind — a friendly reminder that I’m far from Vancouver. I’m in Toronto now. Despite the beautiful sunshine, the weather is completely frigid! Still not getting the clue, I left my house this morning in Vans. Flat, slippery, shoes = falling everywhere. I gave the doorman a laugh at least :).

From this frigid experience, I became inspired to write a post that’s relevant for readers in a cold climate. As you can tell from my previous posts, I was quite blessed with temperate weather.

For those who endured the polar vortex last year, Nike thankfully debuted the “sneaker boot” to save us all (yay capitalism). They’re waterproof. They’re trendy and grippy. Yay. Although I’m a tad late on the bandwagon, it’s never too late to start — right? My favourite version of the Nike Airmax 90 “sneaker boot” is all black — appropriately matching my attitude towards winter. All black everything. Plus, if you’re scared to style these crazy boots, a versatile colour is probably best.

With flashy shoes, I like to add texture, all the while keeping everything streamlined. Leather pant wise, a loose fit is extremely cool. Enough room for long underwear underneath (Google it), yet still possessing a street wear feel. For a sweater, the fuzzy ones at Urban Outfitters are incredibly cozy & not too expensive. For accessories, fingerless gloves are great for those who hate heating their apartment, but love using their laptop (AKA all college students). Since most of your body will be covered, I personally forgo jewellery — except a watch. This watch is simple, clean and prevents the dreaded “I have to take out my phone to check the time” dilemma.

Once I get a tripod and a larger memory card (in a few days), I promise to do a photo shoot before I leave. I know y’all like those posts the best.

Comment below on your favourite cold weather shoe. I don’t actually own these “sneaker boots”, so if you think they’re worth it let me know. I might take the plunge next year.

Winter Whites: ft. Vans SK8-Hi #trainersontuesday

Uncategorized January 14, 2015

As an avid viewer of “What Not To Wear” (American Edition), the style rule “No white after Labour Day” has been drilled into my subconscious since birth (essentially lol). Despite this conditioning,I have gained a disdain for rules as I have gained greater confidence.

When styled with standout colours or cool tones, I really dig white in the winter. For this look, I chose my purple The Kooples jacket as the standout piece. The white trainers, light wash jeans and white tee, provide an awesome contrast.

Besides, white is kinda like snow — right?

For these trainers, I decided to shy away from basic canvas (no cliche white Converse for this girl). Instead, the cracked texture of these SK8-Hi’s keeps them edgy — a unique twist on the classic style. Infact, cracked fabric has become a serious spring trend, as I’m currently coveting this cracked jacket from Club Monaco!

Side note*: The leather jacket is a particularly special piece to me. In lieu of paying, a friend that I’m styling (helping her clean her closet, telling her what to wear) gave it to me. Its the first fashion related payment I have ever received, and it didn’t even feel like work. Guess that’s a sign that I’m on the right track! 🙂

Comment below on how you wear white sneakers — or how you keep them clean in the rain. Seriously. I need to know.

What I’m Wearing

Jacket: The Kooples

Jeans: Rag & Bone Jean

Tee: Hype Mens (13-15)

Trainers: Vans

Purse: Cole Haan Outlet
