As a child, I always berated my mother. For most kids, this involved whining about playdates, or school, but for me, it was naturally fashion related. “WHY DO YOU ALWAYS WEAR BLACK” I would lament to my mother, who predominantly wore black teeshirts, jeans and hideous black slides. **SIDE NOTE: My mom has long passed this phase, and looks better than I do most of the time**.Although I still don’t condone black slides, what I do condone is low key colours. There’s something about layering grey, black and beige that makes a look more expensive. When the textures and shades are mixed, the look ends up being put together with an “I don’t give a shit” twist. (Side note: Kylie Jenner wear a lot of black which is reason enough to wear black too).
For my own outfit, I found this dress at H&M, which I loved because of its layers. Mixed with a tough leather jacket, the grey makes sense. The contrast of the light fabric gives it an edgy cool vibe. Keeping it simple under the jacket is essential — just so the trainers don’t end up looking clunky. The metallic, leather, stretch cotton , chiffon and suede fabrics mixed together = a wonderful soup of texture. If it gets cold, I like to layer a grey cashmere sweater over the dress.
The most important texture of all in this texture soup is the suede (’cause its on the trainers — obviously). I love these shoes not only for their blissful comfort, but also for their “I don’t give a sh*t” Parisienne look. When paired with anything (yes — anything), they make it look 100% more effortless and cool. Besides, beige goes with everything, and although they’re expensive, the cost per wear makes them a steal :).
For those of you wondering, yes, I am in fact obsessed with All Saints. And yes, I’m broke most of the time.
